Our travel cot mattresses use foam of outstanding quality-superior to any you will find available for a travel cot. Our foam offers firm support coupled with comfort and durability, using the exceptional 41/150 density that provides reliable support not offered by other UK brands.
Important Safety Information
A travel cot has soft sides with a netting system all the way round. When you put a mattress in there, you create a small gap between the mattress and the soft side of the travel cot.
A travel cot would not pass British Standards if it came with a mattress, which is why the base is simply padded. However, this padded base will feel like a brick-and you're not going to put your baby to sleep on that hard, unwelcoming surface.
When buying a travel cot mattress, your main focus for safety should be:
- Do not buy a mattress deeper than 5cm - read our complete guide to travel cot mattresses to understand why
- Ensure the highest quality foam in both density and firmness, such as our 41/150 foam
Our Travel Cot Mattress
The mattress base is constructed using high-quality 41/150 density foam, 5cm deep. The foam is wrapped in stockinette for easy cover removal, with a Safetex waterproof band protecting the mattress core from moisture.
The Cover
Our Coolmax & Maxispace cover offers total breathability, extra comfort and temperature control. The Coolmax passes excess heat through to the Maxispace bonded to the back for easy dispersal. This cover is fitted over the waterproof band, giving you protection where it's needed without trapping heat or blocking airflow.
The cover is machine washable at 60°C-the temperature required to kill dust mites and bacteria. It dries very quickly after a fast spin.
When Do You Need a Travel Cot Mattress?
A travel cot mattress is essential whenever you're using a travel cot for sleep-whether that's for holidays, visits to grandparents, or as a temporary sleeping solution. The padded base that comes with travel cots is designed for portability, not comfort or quality sleep. It's firm in all the wrong ways and offers none of the support, breathability or hygiene features your baby needs.
If your baby will be sleeping in a travel cot for more than the occasional night, a proper mattress makes a significant difference to their sleep quality. Many families keep a travel cot at grandparents' houses or use one as a second sleeping space-in these cases, a quality mattress is a worthwhile investment.
Travel cot mattresses are typically suitable from birth until around 3 years old, depending on the travel cot's weight and size limits.
How to Measure for a Travel Cot Mattress
Travel cots come in fairly standard sizes, but measuring is still important:
- Measure the internal base of your travel cot where the mattress will lie-typically the padded board that comes with it.
- Standard sizes: Most travel cots measure approximately 95 x 65cm or 104 x 74cm internally. Check your specific model.
- Depth is critical: Travel cot mattresses should be no deeper than 5cm. This is essential for safety because travel cots have soft mesh sides-a deeper mattress creates larger gaps between the mattress and the sides.
- Check the fold: Some travel cot mattresses need to fold or roll for transport. Our mattresses are designed to work with standard travel cot dimensions.
If you're unsure about the size you need, measure your travel cot's base and contact us-we're happy to advise.
What to Look for When Buying a Travel Cot Mattress
Travel cot mattresses have some unique requirements due to the nature of travel cots. Here's what matters:
- Maximum 5cm depth - This is the most important safety consideration. Travel cots have soft mesh sides, and a mattress deeper than 5cm creates unsafe gaps where a baby could become trapped. Never use a standard cot mattress in a travel cot.
- High-density foam - At only 5cm deep, the foam quality becomes even more critical. Our 41/150 density foam provides firm, reliable support despite the reduced depth. Lower quality foams simply can't offer adequate support at this thickness.
- Breathability - Overheating is a concern in any sleeping environment. Our Coolmax & Maxispace cover provides temperature regulation and moisture wicking, ensuring your baby sleeps comfortably.
- Waterproof protection - Accidents happen, especially away from home. Our mattresses include a Safetex waterproof band protecting the foam core, while the breathable cover sits on top.
- Washable covers - When you're away from home, being able to quickly wash and dry a cover at 60°C is invaluable. Our covers dry quickly after a fast spin.
- Portability - While secondary to safety and comfort, a travel cot mattress should be reasonably easy to transport. Our mattresses are lightweight and designed to work with the travel cot's fold-down design.
- Durability - A quality travel cot mattress will last for years of use across multiple trips and potentially multiple children.
