How Do I Sleep Twins? Together or Separate?
Published 12 Jan 2026
I have twins - how do I sleep them? Do I sleep them in the same crib or cot?
Well, you'll get a huge amount of different advice, but at the end of the day, you decide what's best for your two very special new arrivals.
Sleeping Together From Day One
Here are some options if you want your babies to be together from day one:
- You can buy a Chicco Next-to-Me crib with a divider in the middle, and you can reach over to feed them.
- You can put them in a cot and sleep them feet-to-foot so they're facing opposite directions.
Both are ideal and safe.
Sleeping Separately From the Start
Or you may take the decision that sooner or later they'll be two individual little people and sleep them in separate Moses baskets or swinging cribs.
After 6 Months
Obviously, when they start moving about after 6 months, they can't be in the same cot - they'll keep each other awake! So you'll need two cots or cot beds. Or if you don't have the space, you might plan on bunk beds eventually!
Separate From Day One
You may decide they have their own cots from day one, and separate rooms if you have the space, so they don't wake each other up.
Parents who make this decision often never call them "the twins", never dress them in the same outfit, and bring them up as two individual little people. And anybody who sends a card saying "Happy Birthday to the Twins" is told "two cards please" next time!
I'm not telling you what we did, but you may guess! :)
