Why Is My New Mattress Noisy? Will It Keep My Baby Awake?
Published 12 Jan 2026
You buy a mattress online, so it's the first time you've felt it.
You push up and down on it and you hear a noise like squashing a packet of crisps. You think "OH MY GOD!" - you press the mattress harder up and down and the noise is worse. This noise is created by two fabrics being pushed together and forcing the air out between them.
A Common Concern
Over the past 25 years, we've had dozens of mums say "I want a refund - my baby won't sleep with this racket!"
We understand the concern. However, your baby doesn't sleep by banging its head up and down on the cover - they won't hear any "packet of crisps" noise!
The Reality
Mums say "the mattress is lovely but it's noisy." We say "try it" and come back to us if there's a problem.
95% never do.
We've phoned a few customers and asked how things are going. Most laugh and say "well, you know, first baby, etc."
If It's Still a Problem
Over 25 years, we've sent just 4 pieces of foam liner to put under the cover - it stops the crisp noise and everyone's happy. That's the main thing!
